KENZI’S STORY- A CLIENT’S HEARTFELT GRATITUDE REMINDS US WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
Submitted by Heidi Drew, Client, Companion Animal Hospital and Advanced Animal Hospital of Wisconsin
Kenzi, our little 8-year-old Morkie, is a very important part of our family. She might seem like a normal lap dog, but she is much more to my husband who suffers from PTSD. She calms him when nothing else can and gives him reasons to improve each day. She knows she has a job to do and she does it very well. She is so much more to us than a furry companion, and because of Dr. Christina Benton of Companion Animal Hospital and Dr. Marcus Gordon of Advanced Animal Hospital of Wisconsin, she is still with us.
When we brought Kenzi in for care, she was in grave danger, losing blood and declining fast. Thank goodness for Dr. Benton’s quick thinking and devotion to animals. Kenzi was put into an oxygen cage. Blood work indicated the need for a blood transfusion. Dr. Benton made a call to Dr. Gordon who had worked in ER medicine before and knew how to do transfusions. He agreed to help save our little girl. Once Dr. Gordon completed the transfusion, Kenzi started being the spunky, sassy girl we love.
Over the next few days, Drs. Gordon and Benton checked Kenzi’s blood work and medications were prescribed. Our little girl, who we thought we were going to lose, was now back to herself. The care given to both my family and my pet was so appreciated, and we will never be able to thank them enough. Today Kenzi is living life to its fullest!
Thank you to both amazing doctors for loving animals and having such compassion for people. These doctors saved 2 of my other pets in the past as well. Dr. Gordon braced my sassy Indian Ringneck Parakeet’s leg and saved her from being euthanized. Dr. Benton saved my daughter’s Holland Lop bunny after a tragic accident left her with a broken skull. To the world you might just be veterinarians, but to my family you are both superheroes!
